Despite of a bumpy beginning, these two become good friends in the course of time. As it turns out, Elphaba\u2019s dependant sister, Nessarose, who will ultimately arise to be the Wicked Witch of the East, later joins them at Shiz University.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Elphaba has a lecturer &#8211; Doctor Dillamond. His experimentation involves proving that humans and animals are not intrinsically different. Elphaba, however, has very strong feelings towards the fair treatment of animals and inadvertently assists Doctor Dillamond with his research.<\/p>\n<p>Doctor Dillamond\u2019s work has received the wrong kind of scrutiny and he is suspiciously murdered at the University. A grief stricken Elphaba, ultimately heads for the Emerald City to confront the Wizard of Oz, whom she now considers unreliable.<\/p>\n<p>The first half of this interesting book is fairly fast paced as well as the plot lines and characters are believable and charismatic. However, second half of the book is somewhat slowly paced and much more political in nature but yet still very well-written.
